Arunachal: AAPSU Urges State Govt to Temporarily Stop ILPs to Tourists Amid Bangladesh Crisis

The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has urged the Arunachal Government to temporarily suspend issuing Inner Line Permits (ILPs) to tourists and step up checking and vigil along the 12 districts of the state bordering Assam.
Speaking to media persons, Byagang Hapo Dui, Issue Chairman cum Finance Secretary of AAPSU said, “Amid the ongoing political crisis in Bangladesh, we are getting information that many people are getting displaced. Many displaced people are trying to enter India through Northeast and targeting Arunachal Pradesh also. We met the Home Minister of Arunachal Pradesh today and urged him to strengthen vigilance along the 12 districts of Arunachal Pradesh that shares its borders with Assam to prevent any infiltration attempts. We also urged for the e-Inner Line Permit (e-ILP) system to be temporarily stopped for tourists. We also appealed for the digitization of the e-Inner Line Permit (e-ILP) system to enhance monitoring capabilities. We have data about who enters the state but we don’t have data about whether someone who came with ILP has left the state or not. The Home Minister has given us assurance that all necessary measures will be taken for the protection of the state.”
APPSU, the apex students body of the state said this amid concerns of illegal influx into the state via Assam and other northeastern states which share a direct border with Bangladesh hit by civic unrest.
Arunachal shares an 804.1 Km border with Assam that shares a 262 km border with Bangladesh.
A delegation of AAPSU led by President Dozi Tana Tara met state Home Minister Mama Natung and expressed their concern about possible influx of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.
In their letter to the Home Minister the students body wrote, “In the wake of this (Bangladesh) turmoil, we have received disturbing reports of a large number of people being displaced and attempting to infiltrate into India seeking asylum. AAPSU is deeply concerned about the potential entry of illegal immigrants into Arunachal Pradesh, which could disrupt the tribal ecology and disturb the demographic balance of our state… We strongly appeal to the government to take serious and immediate preventive measures to prevent illegal immigration into Arunachal Pradesh.”
APPSU suggested “rigorous checks at various entry points/ Check gate and strengthening vigilance and monitoring to avoid any potential infiltration and conspiracy”.
The recent upheaval in Bangladesh, marked by large-scale protests and the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has led to significant displacement of the population.
Byagang Hapo Dui, Issue Chairman and Finance Secretary of AAPSU, underscored the urgency of the situation and appealed for the digitization of the e-Inner Line Permit (e-ILP) system to enhance monitoring capabilities. The union said that these measures are crucial for safeguarding the interests of indigenous communities and maintaining the socio-cultural integrity of Arunachal Pradesh.
AAPSU has urged the government to act promptly and decisively to address this pressing issue, ensuring the protection and preservation of the state.
