In a proud moment for Arunachal Pradesh, three indigenous produces from Arunachal Pradesh- Adi Kekir (ginger), handmade carpet and Wancho wooden craft received the Geographical Indication tag.

In his post the Arunachal Chief Minister wrote, “Delighted to share that Adi Kekir (Ginger), Handmade Carpet and Wancho Wooden Craft have been granted Geographical Indication (GI) tags. 🏞️🛍️ .
Truly an acknowledgement of the rich cultural heritage and skilled craftsmanship of our state. Let’s celebrate and promote our unique traditions!”
Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein also posted on X and said, “Our heritage, our pride!
Delighted to know that three more traditional products namely Handmade Carpet, Wancho Wood Craft and Adi Kekir (Ginger) have been granted the prestigious GI (Geographical Indication) tag, with the support of NABARD and the State Government. With the latest addition, Arunachal Pradesh now has a total of 8 indigenous products recognised by GI tags, elevating the significance of our rich culture at a global scale.
Gratitude to Padamshri Dr. Rajani Kant, our GI expert, whose dedication made this remarkable achievement possible. We’ll continue to preserve and promote our diverse range of indigenous commodities and ensure that our local artisans, farmers and entrepreneurs benefit from such recognitions.”
It may be mentioned here that NABARD is supporting 18 such products from the state for GI registration of which, a total of 6 products have received the certification so far.
As per reports, NABARD is in the process of including more potential products in the GI kit and expect the 12 products in pipeline to receive the certification by this month end.
NABARD has been availing the expert services of Padma Shri Rajni Kant, who is a specialist in this field.
