Opposition Congress and CPI-M of Tripura joined the nationwide protest in Tripura capital Agartala against the suspension of 146 MPs from the Parliament. The protest organized under the banner of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, was attended by CPI-M’s Jitendra Choudhary and

Congress’s Szarita Laitphlang among other members of the Opposition coalition.

Speaking to media, Szarita Laitphlang, National Secretary and AICC incharge Tripura and Nagaland said, “We have gathered here today to protest against the murder of democracy which is taking place in front of our eyes day-after-day.”

“We won’t allow this to continue and in 2024 we will fight against the ruling government together,” she added.

Jitendra Chowdhury, CPIM MLA and state secretary, said, “The 146 MLAs were suspended from the parliament recently only because they raised questions on the issue of the parliament security breach. Unfortunately our Prime Minister, Home Minister are speaking only to the press and not in the parliament. This is undermining the spirit of the constitution, undermining the democratic essence of the country.”

The Opposition INDIA bloc today staged a nationwide protest against the suspension of 146 MPs and called on people to unite to save democracy in the country.

It may be added here a total of 146 Members of Parliament, all from the Opposition, were suspended from both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha during the ongoing Parliament Winter Session.
