Marak said web-enabled geo-tagging technology is being used to map and monitor water sources
Meghalaya Public Health Engineering Minister Marcuise N. Marak said that the government has, so far this year, connected 4,65,992 households to water connections while the aim was to provide connection to 5 lakh households.
Speaking to media, Marak said, “ This year we were trying to give water connections to almost 5 lakhs households, as of today we have connected 4,65,992 households.”
He added that most of thepending projects will be completed by January as has been instructed by the Prime Minister of India.
He said, “When the JJM mission started in the state the household water connections in the state stood at only 4500, now the amount has reached 4,65,992, so the government has done very well.”
“ This time we got Rs 200 crores for the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) from the Government of India, so the department has started making payments to the contractors who have completed the work,” he added.
Asked about the drying up of water resources in the state, Marak said, web-enabled geo-tagging technology is being used to map and monitor water sources under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). He said that geo-tagging the water sources will help in monitoring them by the Ministry of Jal Shakti and will guide them to take necessary steps to protect the water sources from all angles.
Geo-tagging technology assigns special longitudinal and latitudinal addresses of structures in a given spot and carries detailed information about them.
