3-day old Mizoram Govt to crack the whip on drugs, crime and Myanmar refugees, HM Sapdanga chairs key meet

Barely three days in office and the Lalduhoma government in Mizoram is already preparing itself for a full-fledged crackdown on drugs. To take things forward expeditiously, just appointed state Home Minister K Sapdanga today chaired a review meet with top police officials in presence of DGP Anil Shukla.
During the meeting, K Sapdanga was briefed by the police officials on different parameters including the drugs menace, entry of Myanmar refugees, general cases of crime, as well as the strengths and requirements of the police force.
With the primary focus on wiping out the drugs menace from Mizoram, Home Minister K Sapdanga affirmed that his government stands committed in doing so, as promised prior to assuming power.
Sapdanga said, “I am here to work with you and alongside you so that the drug menace making their presence and passing through Mizoram can be terminated and check the source. In order to achieve that goal we must all come together as a team to make Mizoram a safer place for the people to live and for the generations to come.
We are here to provide for their safety and security. As stated earlier the Government of Mizoram will put in utmost effort to curb crimes and eliminate drugs trafficking in the state which have been rampant in the recent past.”
Not only this, K Sapdanga also assured that the present government shall always be inclusive in its character so that everyone can reap the benefits of welfare and development.
Instilling a sense of confidence among the people, Sapdang underscored his responsibilities as the Mizoram Home Minister and said, “Under the leadership of our Chief Minister we will try to meet the expectations of the general public. We will strive towards making an inclusive government where all sections of the society feel that the government is their government and that we are here to assist them.”
During the meeting, it was informed to the Home Minister that under the Special and Local Laws, 726 cases have been regitered this year of which maximum cases-259 are registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act followed by 110 cases registered under the POCSO Act.
If plans succeed, than one may definitely see elimination of drug cartels operating through, for which prevalence of narcotics in the state has emerged as an immediate consequence, and of a course a threat to the society, especially the youth.
It may be mentioned that completely wiping out drugs from Mizoram if voted to power, was one of the biggest poll planks of the ZPM in this election.
Today was the second full fledged working day for the Lalduhoma government that was sworn in on December 8, Friday.
