North East students’ body observing black day to mark 4th anniversary of CAA

The North East Students’ Organisation observed ‘black day’ in all seven states of the North East on Monday to mark the fourth anniversary of the passage of contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
NESO comprises of eight students’ bodies All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU), Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Twipra Student Federation (TSF), and All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU).
As a mark of protest, NESO has put up black flags and black banners across all the important places in Meghalaya capital, Shillong.
Reiterating that 11th December will always be remembered as a Black Day for the whole of the North East, NESO continues to show opposition of the indigenous peoples of the North East against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019.
Today, AAPSU also observed Black Day against the CAA-2019 at the NEFA club building, AAPSU office in Itanagar.
NESO IPR secretary Pritam Sonam said this demonstration is to give a message to the government of India that we are against this Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.
While opposing the govt, AAPSU Vice President Nabam Gandhi said that the present central govt is misusing its power, and keeping in consideration the problems of our state and its neighboring state, AAPSU is today extending its support to NESO.
Along with the rest of the region, the All Assam Students Union AASU observed ‘black day’. The protest was held at Swahid Bhawan in Guwahati by the AASU, which reiterated its stance against the law.
