Normal life was paralyzed in several parts of the Imphal valley in Manipur in the wake of the bandh called over the killing of 13 people in Tengnoupal on Monday.
Shops, commercial establishments and schools are closed in several parts of the Imphal valley as a mark of protest.
The bandh was a spontaneous reaction of the general public to killing of the 13 people.
It may be mentioned here that mystery shrouds the killing of 13 people in the shootout at Leit-hao village near Saibol under Machi police station in Tengnoupal.
There is tension in the state following this gunfight that came within days of Manipur’s oldest insurgent group, the UNLF, signing a ceasefire agreement with the Union Government.
Emotional scenes were seen outside the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal last night when the family members of the people killed in the shootout collected their bodies bodies from the morgue following the post-mortem examination.
The grieving families expressed their anger over the incident and collectively decided to perform the last rites at Andro in Imphal East.
