Meghalaya CM highlights benefits of goods trains for farmers in the state

CM reiterated the government's commitment to resolving concerns and clarified that there is no intention to force decisions

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday spoke about the benefits of introducing goods trains in the state and emphasised its positive impact on farmers and the broader community in Meghalaya.

“Goods trains are something very positive. They will greatly benefit farmers and society at large. We are in supportive discussions with the centre”, the Chief Minister said inaugurating the 3rd Farmers’ Parliament at the State Convention Centre.

Sangma highlighted that the state government continues to engage in discussions with the Government of India and various stakeholders to address existing concerns. Despite acknowledging the positive impact of goods trains, the CM emphasized the importance of ensuring that any development is acceptable to all. He stated, “We are not going to bulldoze anything. Development is necessary, but it should be acceptable to everybody, and we want to carry along everybody.”

The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving concerns and clarified that there is no intention to force decisions. The state government remains supportive of the introduction of goods trains but emphasizes the need for comprehensive discussions.
