Many govt buildings now disabled-friendly: Paul Lyngdoh

The Meghalaya Minister added that tourist spots will also be disabled-friendly soon.
Aiming to make Meghalaya an easier place for disabled people, Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh, today, said that twenty important government buildings of Meghalaya have been made disabled-friendly in the state. He added that the government aims to clear further 61 such proposals which are pending with the government, before the end of the fiscal year to make more buildings disabled friendly.
Talking to the media,m at the sidelines of the Empowerment Fest 2023, Lyngdoh said that he will hold a meeting to review further proposed projects with district heads and officials of Department of Social Welfare and Education in the second week of January.
He further expressed his displeasure at the pace at which projects have been moving for benefits of disabled people and acknowledged the need to work in tandem with all departments to ensure that government buildings and institutions provide easy access to persons with disabilities.
Lyngdoh informed that tourist spots will also be made disabled-friendly soon.
The Office of the District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills, Shillong, commemorated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the U Soso Tham Auditorium today.
