Irked over the delay in removal of Bodoland University (BU) Vice Chancellor Laishram Ladu Singh, the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has announced a series of agitations with effect from December 4 till December 9.
And, if during the course their agitation, their demand is not met, they would march to the Raj Bhawan on December 15, the apex Bodo students’ body said.
ABSU President Dwipen Boro spoke to Northeast Live and said that despite assurances from Governor Gulab Chand Kataria for removal of the VC, nothing effective has happened so far. Hence, the influential students group has decided to intensify the agitation.
The ABSU leader alleged that there has been an inordinate delay into the matter.
Dwipen Boro said, “Against this delay we are announcing a series of agitations. On December 4 there will be six hours students Satyagraha. 30 students and community organisations of BTR area will join us. On 5th of December we will lock the University’s entrance gate or the VC’s office, we are declaring this “Tala Bandh” programme. On December 6 there will be a rally and effigy burning in all the District headquarters of BTR. On 7th we will meet the Principals of the affiliated colleges under BU and HoDs of BU to support in the movement of non-cooperation.
On 8th we will again meet the students’ bodies, on the 9th there will be a University Gherao programme by creating a human chain. If during these programmes no result comes out we will be bound to demonstrate Raj Bhawan Chalo programme on December 15th because it is a very shameful, unprecedented incident that as to how such a person who is under pre-arrest bail can hold the position of VC of the prestigious Bodoland University.”
The ABSU president in strongest terms said, “We strongly oppose it and condemn, as to why still this person who had been charged with corruption, misappropriation of funds is still holding the post of the Vice Chancellor. How a person who is out on bail can hold the post of Vice Chancellor?”
Dwipen Boro highlighted that during a joint discussion with BTR Chief Pramod Boro, ABSU and the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), Governor Gulab Chand Kataria had assured action against the VC. The meeting was held on October 20.
Worth mentioning that the ABSU as well as other organizations of the Bodo community have been protesting against the VC accused of corruption seeking his removal at the earliest.
