Manipur CM N Biren Singh informed that things have already reached an advanced stage. Hence the peace accord is expected to be signed soon.
The N Biren Singh government in Manipur will soon ink a peace deal with a frontline rebel group very soon. Chief Minister N Biren Singh himself made this big announcement on the sidelines of release of the Diglot Edition of the Constitution of India in Manipuri Language (Meitei Mayek Script).
According to the Chief Minister, things have already reached an advanced stage and the peace deal will be struck at the earliest. From the statements of the Chief Minister, it is clear that the government has already held multiple round of talks with the group, as a solution in the form of a peace accord is expected soon.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced about this, when he was asked if anything was on the pipeline with the valley based proscribed organisations.
Without divulging much, in his reply N Biren Singh said, “Yes, we are just advancing and we are expecting to sign a peace accord with one big UG (Underground Group) very soon.”
The Chief Minister believes that it is time for everyone in the state as a whole to reciprocate to what has been done so for their welfare by the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
N Biren Singh was asked to what would be his appeal to those who are opposing to join the mainstream.
He said, “How the honourable PM Modi Ji gave respect and recognition to our forefathers by going to the Andaman and Nicobar and changing the name of the Mount Harriet to Manipur Parvat, is a great honour to the people of Manipur. Next PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah has given the unexpected ILP to the state of Manipur by giving importance and priority and knowing the uniqueness of the people of the state. Thirdly, today we are publishing the Constitution of India, the longest and the written Constitution in the world, in our own script. So this kind of honour and respect given by the central leaders like PM Modi, than why should we not reciprocate? I want to appeal the people of the state, that we should have the thingking of how to reciprocate, to whatever is given or done by the central leaders towards the people of Manipur. Accordingly once again I want to appeal to the people of the state to work together for a better and united India.”
The statement of the Manipur Chief Minister assumes significance when reports have emerged suggesting that the government was holding talks with one faction of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF).
There are at least 10 valley based UGs in Manipur which include-
United National Liberation Front (UNLF)
People’s Liberation Army (PLA)
People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK)
Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP)
Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL)
Manipur Liberation Tiger Army (MLTA)
Iripak Kanba Lup (IKL)
People’s Republican Army (PRA)
Kangleipak Kanba Kanglup (KKK)
Kangleipak Liberation Organisation (KLO)
