Manipur CM pays homage to bodybuilder Nongthombam Maipak

Nongthombam Maipak Singh, known as ‘Maipak, Son of Manipur’ passed away at RIMS ICU on Monday

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh today attended the cremation ceremony of bodybuilder Late Nongthombam Maipak Singh and paid his deepest respects to the departed soul.

Taking to social media again, he shared, “Attended the cremation of Late Shri Nongthombam Maipak and paid my deepest respects. Late Shri Nongthombam Maipak holds a special place among the iconic figures of Manipur. He has been a major inspiration among the youths in the field of bodybuilding and shall continue to inspire the upcoming generations. I pray for the departed soul to rest in peace at the heavenly abode. I further extend my sincere condolences to his family & followers.”

In another post condoling the death of Maipak, the CM wrote, “My heartfelt condolences on the demise of Nongthombam Maipak, the Son of Manipur.

His achievements as Mr India 1970 and as Mr Universe 1971 participant brought pride and left an indelible mark on our state. May his legacy inspire generations to come and may his soul find eternal peace.”

Nongthombam Maipak Singh, born on June 12, 1935, in Uripok, Imphal, popularly known as ‘Maipak, Son of Manipur’ and fondly called ‘Oja Maipak’ by bodybuilders of Manipur passed away at RIMS ICU on Monday after battling with illness. He was 88.

Being a bodybuilder, Nongthombam Maipak Singh was crowned Mr. India in 1970 and participated in the Mr. Universe competition in 1971. His accomplishments brought immense pride to Manipur and served as a source of inspiration for aspiring bodybuilders.
