North East celebrates Janjatiya Gaurav Divas 2023

Starting from remote Tawang, Lekang and Bordumsa in Arunachal Pradesh to Kohima in Nagaland, Shillong in Meghalaya and Agartala in Tripura, northeast India enthusiastically took part in the Janjatiya Gaurav Divas 2023.

In Tawang, students gathered to perform a skit with a message to save the environment against pollution, cutting trees and other social messages. They also sang Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.

The event was attended by Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi, District In-charge of Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Mines, Meena Kumari and Tawang DC Kanki Darang.

In Lekang, a grand programme was held and rich tributes were paid to Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The programme was attended by Arunachal Deputy Chief Minister Chowa Mein, Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao, Lekang MLA Jumman Ete Deori, Namsai district BJP President Sujana Namchoom and a host of local people.

In Bordumsa, large number of people gathered at the Jan Jatiya Gaurav Divas celebrations and also paid tribute to Birsa Munda and garlanded his statue. The main event was organised by All Adivasi Students Union of Arunachal Pradesh and Bordumsa Adivasi Development Parishad.

The tribal pride divas was celebrated in Shillong by organising a cultural procession on tribal pride. The procession comprised of about 17 groups and two tableaus displaying the rich cultural heritage of the three tribes of Meghalaya – Khasis, Garos and Jaintias and the tribal freedom fighters of the state.

In Tripura, Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha, accompanied by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, and Sukla Charan Noatia Cooperation, Tribal Welfare (TRP & PTG), Welfare of Minorities Minister, inaugurated the Chief Minister Tribal Development Mission and Pratihari Ghare Sudhan 2.0.

The dignitaries virtually joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas celebration in Khunti, Jharkhand. During the event, PM Modi launched the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra’ and the Pradhan Mantri Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups Development Mission.

Janjatiya Gaurav Divas being celebrated since 2021, is observed to remember and honour the contributions made by tribal freedom fighters to India’s Independence. Celebrated on November 15, the day marks the birth anniversary of the great tribal warrior Birsa Munda.
