Tripura: TIPRA Motha slams govt over infiltration, says indigenous people becoming a minority

Highlighting the potential dangers associated with infiltration, Animesh Debbarma said that it is a matter of grave concern in terms of national security.

Infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals as well as Rohingyas seems to have snowballed into a political blame game in Tripura. Days after the NIA busted a racket facilitating the entry of illegal migrants in the state, Leader of Opposition and TIPRA Motha leader Animesh Debbarma has squarely blamed the Tripura government for allegedly failing to curb the menace.

According to the TIPRA Motha leader due to alleged inaction by the government, the indigenous people are on the verge of being becoming a minority in their own homeland.

Highlighting the potential dangers associated with infiltration, Animesh Debbarma said that it is a matter of grave concern in terms of national security.

He said, “These arrests by the NIA, Railway Police, Tripura Police, what does it prove? It proves that infiltration is happening. Even today, I feel, my party feels that infiltration should stop because the demography and the population ratio in Tripura has already changed. Now my fear is that indigenous people are becoming minority in their state. This is not only about the indigenous becoming minority in their own state, but it is concerned about national security. The security of the state as well as the security of the nation is under threat.”

The TIPRA Motha leader coming out all guns blazing against the government said, “The state government is quite about it and the ruling party is totally silent on this just for political gain. They are in power they should have been talking about this.

In Assam, the BJP party is very vocal on this infiltration issue. My only question is that what the state government is doing, what the border guards are doing. Why the central government is not taking measures to stop this infiltration.”

According to Animesh Debbarma, the government must engage in action to stop illegal migration rather than blaming the Opposition for the prevailing situation.

In this context he said, “My request to the state government and the central government is that don’t blame opposition for this. You are already in the government for the last 6 years, now you should forget as who was in the government in the last 25 or 30 years, but is your turn to act now.”

“Even as a leader of Opposition I wonder that in Tripura nearly 17 to 18 BSF battalions are there and they are guarding our borders. 94% of our border it is already fenced. If I remember correctly, 856 km border with Bangladesh has already been fenced. Still then why Tripura Police and other agencies are totally quite about NIA coming from Delhi and nabbing the 21 people, it is shocking,” Debbarma added.
