She visited the Agoratoli Range in Kaziranga National Park in Assam for a conservation event of Wild Life Trust India.
Bollywood diva Dia Mirza, who is visiting Kaziranga National Park in Assam, on Saturday, lauded Assam Government’s efforts towards ensuring zero poaching of one-horned rhinos in the Park. The one-horned rhino is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List and earlier there has been several instances of rhino poaching in the Park resulting in a huge dip in its population in Assam.
The IUCN Red List is a list that gives an indication about the health of the world’s biodiversity.
“According to the recent report, Assam recorded zero poaching of endangered one-horned rhinos and this is commendable. The Assam government has done a great job in putting a full stop on rhino poaching and I would love that if other species are also being protected the same way,” the Bollywood actress who is in Kaziranga for a conservation event organised by Wildlife Trust India (WTI) said.
This is Mirza’s second visit to the National Park which is a UNESCO Heritage Site and has been visited by the likes of British royal couple Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton, Aamir Khan, Karan Johar, Ayushmann Khuranna and family and a host of other celebrities and heads of states of foreign countries and dignitaries. Dia Mirza visited the Agoratoli Range of the Park.
Currently, Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk is on a two-day visit to the Park.
“I have heard that the Bhutan King is scheduled to visit Kaziranga National Park. He will definitely love our forests and diversity and I would love to invite him to visit Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation,” said the Bollywood diva.
Speaking about her love for the National Park, Dia said, “Kaziranga National Park is one of my favourite destinations. Eight years back when I first came here I visited Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation in association with Wild Life Trust India. I have been working for animal conservation for the last 10 years. The work that the government and the wild life conservation organization are doing in order to protect and recue the animals is commendable.”
