Is Meghalaya becoming a drug hub? The state has been seeing a significant rise in recovery of drugs and arrests of drug peddlers since last few months.
Amid the rising cases related to drug trafficking, the Meghalaya government has identified the hotspots of drug peddling in the state and trying to address the issue.

Speaking to media, Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh today said based on district-wise data from the State Police, East Khasi Hills has the highest number of drug-related cases—88—followed by East Jaintia Hills and Ri Bhoi districts.

The Minister said that maximum number of drug related cases have been reported from the villages under these districts.

Minister Lyngdoh said that the State government has formed a 3-member advisory board authorized under the NDPS Act, to review the detention of drug dealers and has been seeking community participation to deal with the drug menace in the state.
Minister Paul Lyngdoh today had a meeting with Dorbar Shnong (traditional village institution) of West Shillong and urged it to identify the drug paddlers and help in tackling the menace of drugs.

The State Police today recovered 1.01 kg of Methamphetamine tablets worth Rs. 1.5 crore and arrested one individual in the connection at Nongsning village in East Jaintia Hills.

Taking to X, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma lauded the State Police’s efforts and wrote, ” Our unrelenting stance against drug mafias underscores our determination to deny them a foothold in our state!In the wee hours today, @EJHPolice& its ANTF displayed exemplary courage during an operation at Nongsning village and arrested a notorious interstate drug trafficker along with 1.01 Kg of Crystal Meth worth more than ₹1.5 Crores. Police is diligently working to hunt for backward and forward linkages.Kudos to @lrbishnoiipsand his team!The govt is determined to continue the crusade against narco-traffickers with unwavering dedication.”
