The family has demanded strict punishment against the nurses for the wrong treatment and being absent during emergency hours
In yet another incident of alleged negligence of hospital staff, a two-month-old baby died in a hospital in Assam’s Golaghat district last night. The incident took place at Shaheed Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital, Golaghat.
Following the incident, a heated argument broke out between the family of the deceased child and the hospital staff.
As per inputs, the infant was admitted to the hospital in the ICU ward three days ago due to cold. The doctors performed certain tests and declared the baby normal.
However, last night, when the mother went to feed milk to the infant at midnight, the baby did not respond. The panic-stricken mother called for help, but no nurse responded at that time.
“At around 12 a.m., when the mother went to feed the baby, the baby was not responding. When we knocked the door, no nurse responded. The nurse was sleeping with the door closed. Then we called the emergency doctor, but the doctor came after 30 minutes.”
The family of the deceased infant has alleged that the baby died due to wrong treatment and further alleged that the nurse was sleeping and didn’t provide any help when the incident took place.
The family has now demanded strict punishment against the nurses for the wrong treatment and being absent during emergency hours.
The deceased’s family also said that the body of the infant will be kept in the hospital until the guilty are punished.
One of the family members also alleged that the nurse on duty misbehaved with the patient’s parents.
Earlier, in another incident of doctor negligence reported at Nalbari Medical College & Hospital, a 5-year-old child died due to a snake bite after the child was not given anti-venom on time by the hospital authorities.
The family has lodged an FIR at Ghograpar Police Station against the doctors of Nalbari Medical College and Hospital for gross negligence.
After the FIR against the hospital, an assistant professor, Dr. Jonali Bhattacharyya, has been immediately transferred to Jorhat Medical College & Hospital.
A committee was also formed to probe if there was alleged negligence by Nalbari Medical College and Hospital authorities in saving the 5-year-old child.
