Meghalaya Govt issues helpline number for states people affected in North East Express derailment

The Meghalaya government has issued a helpline number for the people of the state those who are affected in by the derailment of the Delhi-Kamakhya North East Express in Bihar’s Buxar district late yesterday night.

Furthermore, in case of emergency, citizens can contact–K Thabah, Meghalaya House Guwahati – 7896167945, I Kharmon, District Transport Officer, Ri-Bhoi District – 887003923, Richie Momin – 9615208771 and Hubert Nongbri – 7005627065 for coordination and redressal of issues.

Earlier, the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma extended his deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the unfortunate incident.

CM Sangma said that after the incident, he had spoken to the Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw with regards to the treatment of the injured and casuaties. He stated that the State government is in touch to ensure that people of Meghalaya receive relief.

“Relieved to learn that people from the North East have been reported safe in the derailment incident of the Delhi-Kamakhya North East Express in Bihar’s Buxar District. I extend my deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the unfortunate incident,” CM Sangma wrote on X.

It was 9:35 PM when a big jolt shook the passengers on board the ill-fated train up. They next heard a loud noise. Immediately afterwards, 21 bogies of the Express train derailed claiming 4 lives.

A mother-daughter duo–Usha Bhandari (33) and Aakriti (8) who hailed from Eastern Assam’s Sadiya district lost their lives in the tragic incident.

Names of the other two deceased are Abu Zaid, 27, and Narendra, 32.
