Special train carrying passengers of derailed North East Express to reach Guwahati this evening

The Assam and Meghalaya governments are in close touch with the Railway ministry after the incident
A special train with 1006 passengers of the ill fated Anand Vihar (Delhi)-Kamakhya (Guwahati) North East Express which derailed in Bihar’s Raghunathpur is on its way to Guwahati. The train is expected to reach the Kamakhya Railway station at 6PM this evening. The train will have designated stoppages enroute.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the details in his post on ‘X’ this morning. Chief Minister Sarma also condoled the death of 4 passengers. He posted, “My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the quick recovery of those injured.”
Soon after the mishap occured, the Assam Chief Minister was prompt enough to establish contacts with the railway authorities and gathered all the necessary details for due course of action.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma also spoke to Railway minister Ashwini Vasihnab to find out the details and sought for relief to the citizens from Meghalaya who were on board the train.
In a post on ‘X’ the Meghalaya Chief Minister said, “Spoke to Sh @AshwiniVaishnaw
ji on the #NorthEastExpress train derailment at #Buxar. He informed that all injured passengers are being taken to hospitals and train to ferry passengers for onward journey have started. Our State officials are in touch to ensure that residents from Meghalaya are being provided assistance.”
The Meghalaya government has also launched a helpline nos. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed about this after the mishap. Conrad Sangma in a social media post said, “We are in touch with railway authorities and have been monitoring the situation. Citizens of Meghalaya can reach out to State authorities for assistance. Helpline No. 18003453644.”
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu also expressed his grief on the loss of lives in the train derailment incident. He said, “I’m extremely pained at the loss of precious lives and injuries caused to travelers due to the derailment of North East Express train near Buxar in Bihar.
Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured passengers. 🙏”
At least four passengers died and another 50 were injured after 21 coaches of the North East Express train derailed near Raghunathpur station in Buxar district, an official said earlier.
Those deceased have been identified as:
Usha Bhandari-33 yrs
Aakriti Bhandari-8 yrs
Abu Zaid-27 yrs
Narendra-32 yrs
Nearly 50 passengers have been admitted to different government hospitals. Some of them are reportedly in critical condition.
The North East Express had rolled out of the Anand Vihar Terminal, Delhi to Kamakhya in Assam.
According to officials, as many as 21 coaches derailed at 9.35 pm on Wednesday near Raghunathpur station of the Danapur division of the East Central Railway.
