In a rather interesting and rare incident, a wild elephant drank brew made by locals, got intoxicated, lost control, and went on the rampage seriously injuring two persons in Meghalaya’s North Garo Hills.

The incident took place on Sunday evening at Khaldang village, located in Resubelpara C.D.Block of North Garo Hills district.

According to forest officials, the elephant strayed out of forest to the Khaldang village area and was heading towards Assam by crossing the border.

The elephant smelled the brew being made by the locals there. Drawn by the aroma, the elephant proceeded to where the brew was being made, and apparently drank the brew, became intoxicated, lost control, and went on the rampage.

The wild elephant attacked houses in the Khaldang village, smashing a couple of them while also injuring a few locals who were trying to stop the damage.

During the attack, a woman from Meghalaya and a man from Assam sustained serious injuries.
