Tripura: TSU, SFI stage protest against alleged privatization of educational institutes, fee hike

The protestors also demanded that the government take appropriate steps to address the crisis of teachers in schools
The Tribal Students Union (Tripura) and the Students Federation of India (SFI) today staged a massive protest in Agartala against alleged privatization of educational institutes in Tripura.
Members of both the students groups after a rally congregated in front of the Siksha Bhawan and raised slogans in support of their demands.
TSU secretary Sudip Tripura spoke to Northeast Live and flayed the role of the government for allegedly making attempts to privatize the educational institutes.
The TSU leader said, “It is the fundamental right of everyone to get education. We are protesting against the way efforts have been made by the BJP government to privatize the educational institutes. Secondly, we are also protesting against fees hike. There was no fees hike during the 25 years of rule by the Left government, like it is happening now. Educational institutes are charging fees as they wish, why should this happen. If you see the economic condition of Tripura than how can a family of two child pay the fees, how will they get education. Our demand is that the fees hike must be controlled.”
Besides, the protestors also demanded that there must be no discrimination as far as education is concerned. According to TSU secretary Sudip Tripura, there must be no division on the basis of caste community or religion.
The TSU and the SFI also demanded that the government must urgently deal with the shortage of teachers in different educational institutes particularly the schools. In this context, the TSU leader said, “Our last demand is that teachers must be recruited in those schools with less number of teachers. In the ADC areas there are 1634 schools but 50 percent of those schools are without Headmasters. How will schools run when there are no Headmasters?”
