A firing exercise was held in Mandala last May, whereas there will be another one at Kamrala soon
In a big step towards augmenting the nation’s defence prowess, the Arunachal Pradesh government has decided to provide 2 high altitude firing ranges to the armed forces. Named Kamrala and Mandala, the two firing ranges are located 10, 000 feet and about 50 km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.
Both the firing ranges will serve the purpose of providing simulated war conditions and testing firepower capabilities of the infantry and artillery radars, surveillance systems etc.
Sources informed that an integrated surveillance and firepower training exercise –‘Buland Bharat’ – was carried out at Mandala in May while firing exercises would be started at Kamrala very soon.
It may be mentioned that India is also flexing its muscles along the LAC by enhancing its surveillance capabilities to tackle any kind of intrusion from the Chinese side.
The armed forces have placed surveillance cameras at key locations at the LAC and drones are also being used to see any changes or military buildup on the side.
Arunachal Pradesh shares a 1,129-km-long LAC with China’s Tibet Autonomous Region.
Chinese troops intruded into Yangtse in Tawang on December 9 last year, following which troops on both sides clashed resulting in injuries.
