The Manipur BJP leaders urged JP Nadda to persuade PM Modi to give time for a meeting with BJP MLAs camping in Delhi to meet him.
Amid fresh round of violence in Manipur, the state unit of the BJP has sought the intervention of party national president JP Nadda to deliver peace and normalcy in the state that has been on the boil for close to five months now.
Mentioning that “public anger and protest is now slowly turning the tide” and the prolonged disturbance is being seen as “failure of the government in dealing with the situation”, the party leaders from the state flagged 8 “key issues” which, according to the leaders, the general public of Manipur want the Central and state government to address promptly.
The letter signed by Manipur BJP president A Sharda Devi, three vice presidents and three general secretaries and spokesperson of Manipur BJP, has sought the revocation of Article 355 and restoring Unified Command to Chief Minister N Biren Singh to “re-establish full confidence and trust to the Government in handling the situation”.
Besides, the Manipur BJP leaders also urged JP Nadda to persuade Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give time for a meeting with BJP MLAs camping in the national capital to meet him.
The Manipur BJP leaders have also sought “all possible help and support to release Moirangthem Anand Singh who has been arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the present crisis.
Apart from this, the BJP leaders have also pressed for complete clearing of poppy cultivations in the state and setting up of a joint monitoring committee to keep a close tab on such cases. For this, representatives of the Civil Society Organisations must also be included in the Committee, the leaders demanded.
Among the other aspects for which the Manipur BJP has sought JP Nadda’s intervention include, effective implementation of the SoO (Suspension of Operations) Ground Rules. The leaders said that violations of these Ground Rules be considered as an act of terrorism and should be dealt accordingly by both Centre and the State to the extent that whoever violates the Ground Rules should be treated as terrorist.
The other demands of the Manipur BJP include-
• Early completion of biometric collection of illegal Myanmar immigrants, early implementation of NRC
• Settlement and rehabilitation of displaced people at their original place. Giving them what was promised
• Restore smooth flow of traffic on NH 2 & NH 37
