Manipur: Skill training programme launched for IDPs in relief camps

In a significant move to support internally displaced persons (IDPs) residing in relief camps due to the ongoing unrest in the state, the District Administration has joined hands with the NGO, Bridge Ministries, to launch a Skill Training Programme today. The initiative aims to equip IDPs with valuable skills, offering them the opportunity to secure jobs and sustain their livelihoods.
The programme was officially inaugurated by Dharun Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Churachandpur who emphasized the district administration’s commitment to not only providing relief materials but also ensuring that IDPs receive the necessary skills to enhance their employability. He urged the IDPs to maintain open communication with the district administration to address their specific needs and concerns, while also calling for collective efforts from all stakeholders to make this programme a success.
Thangboi Gangte, additional district commissioner, Churachandpur, stressed the importance of offering relevant vocational and technical skills to IDPs, enabling them to find employment, build their careers, and make positive contributions to society.
Jangminlal Mate, Coordinator of Bridge Ministries, shared their organization’s mission to assist underprivileged individuals in fulfilling their dreams, despite limited resources. They expressed their dedication to helping displaced people overcome the economic challenges that lie ahead.
Tailoring skills will be imparted to IDPs by trainers from Bridge Ministries as part of this programme. Mannuamching, District Nodal Officer (Relief Camp), along with other officials from the district administration were present at the launch of the programme.
The district administration had previously organized a computer training programme for displaced students, showcasing their commitment to providing educational and vocational opportunities to those affected by the unrest.
This new Skill Training Programme is expected to be a significant step towards empowering IDPs and helping them rebuild their lives.
