Meet Manipur scientist Dr. Raghu Ningthoujam who was part of ISRO’s successful team behind Chandrayaan 3

Dr. Raghu Ningthoujam, hails from Thanga in Bishnupur district of Manipur and is M. Sc. in Chemistry from Manipur University
India’s third lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, successfully landed on the south polar region of the Moon scripting history today at 6:04 PM today. India became just the fourth country to land on the Moon after the United States, Russia, and China, to achieve the feat.
As whole of India celebrated, it was an extra special moment for Manipur because Dr. Raghu Ningthoujam was part of the triumphant Team ISRO who handled the successful launch and landing of Chandrayaan 3.
Congratulating, Dr. Raghu, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that regardless of the difficulty of the challenge, the people of Manipur will always bounce back stronger.
“It’s heartening to share that a scientist from Manipur, Dr. Raghu Ningthoujam, from Thanga, Bishnupur was part of the Chandrayaan moon landing mission. The setbacks we encounter from time to time cannot erase our 2000-year-old history. Regardless of the difficulty of the challenge, the people of Manipur will always bounce back stronger,” CM Biren Singh tweeted.
Dr. Raghu Ningthoujam, scientist from Manipur, has been a key part of the country’s historic moon mission-Chandrayaan 3.
Dr. Ningthoujam, hails from Thanga in Bishnupur district of Manipur. He is M. Sc. in Chemistry from Manipur University. He passed out in 1994. He received his Ph. D. in Chemistry from IIT Kanpur. He has around 150 papers published in reputable journals, 5 review articles, and 4 book chapters.
He was awarded the Scientific & Technical Excellence Award, DAE 2012, and the Young Achiever Award, SSPS 2010, in recognition of his substantial contributions to chemical research.
Chandrayaan-3, India’s third lunar mission carried out by ISRO, was launched on July 14 at 2.35 pm from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
