The "Mix Prank 2.0" page portrayed the Nehru Road in Darjeeling as a "red light area”

A resident of Darjeeling has lodged a complaint against the Facebook page “Mix Prank 2.0” for spreading false information about Darjeeling.

The “Mix Prank 2.0” page portrayed the Nehru Road in Darjeeling as a “red light area.” The video soon received a backlash from the local residents questioning the authenticity of the video.

Amid the backlash, Vikram Rai, a local college faculty member, reported the matter to the cybercrime division of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Soon after the complaint, the Facebook page was taken down.

In a Facebook post, the complainant strongly condemned the dissemination of false information and highlighted its harmful implications.

“This page is inaccurately portraying Darjeeling as a red-light area, a depiction that is not only factually incorrect but also deeply harmful to the town’s reputation and image,” Rai wrote on Facebook.

Rai emphasized the misinformation’s potential negative impact on the town’s image and livelihoods.

Rai noted that such false information will tarnish the image of Darjeeling and impact the tourism industry.

“Disseminating such misleading information on a widely-used platform like Facebook is deeply concerning and necessitates immediate intervention,” Rai noted.

The complainant urged the people to report the issue to Facebook and the cyber media for a swift resolution and the restoration of Darjeeling’s rightful reputation.
