Ahead of I-Day, Assam Rifles seizes huge cache of gelatin sticks and detonators in Assam

Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, Assam Rifles Srikona Battalion successfully averted a potential disaster by recovering a substantial quantity of gelatin sticks and detonators near Ranighat, approximately 15 kilometres from Silchar, Assam on Sunday night.

Acting on a specific intelligence input, the Assam Rifles team was in the look put for two individuals who were reportedly transporting a bag loaded with materials.

The swift operation unfolded near the Altaf Bridge in Ranighat. The two individuals, possibly sensing the heightened security presence, abandoned the bag near the bridge and hastily fled the scene, Assam Rifles sources said.

Two hundred gelatin sticks and an equivalent number of detonators, totalling 400 potentially lethal devices were found inside the abandoned bag.

The Assam Rifles team promptly alerted the Cachar police about the operation and handed over the seized cache of gelatin sticks and detonators.
