Manipur unrest: COCOMI condemns Kwakta killing, declares social boycott of State Govt

The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), the apex body representing Meiteis of Manipur, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of three villagers by armed miscreants in Kwakta in Bishnupur district on Saturday, August 5, and announced its decision to boycott the BJP-led state government for failing to respect the people’s resolution requesting the State government to summon a special Assembly session by August 5, that was adopted by the People’s Mass Rally on July 29, 2023.
The three villagers were sleeping when armed miscreants entered their house and killed them. Of the three killed, two were hacked to death and the third was shot dead. The incident happened at Ward No. 8 in the Kwakta Municipal Council in Bishnupur district.
The victims have been identified as a 67-year-old father and his two sons, aged 46 and 39, respectively.
COCOMI also condemned the act of demolishing over 100 Meitei houses and levelling the area using 5 bull dozers by mobs from Churachandpur and S Kotlien in Torbung Bangla on the same day when the Kwakta incident happened. The houses were the remnants of already burnt by miscreants during the conflict, it added.
