Bangladesh, which borders Tripura, has been declared dengue-infected. High surveillance has already been put up in the bordering areas
Tripura is witnessing a surge in dengue infection cases, especially in the bordering Sepahijala district’s Dhanpur area, where at least 158 confirmed cases have been reported in less than a week, said health officials.
More than 50 patients whose conditions were severe were shifted to the chief referral hospital, Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC), and Govind Ballabh Panth Hospital (GBP) in Agartala since July 29, informed Dr. Sankar Chakraborty, superintendent of the hospital, adding that one of those shifted to the ICU had abdominal pain, but now the condition of that patient is stable.
He informed that the patients are largely from Dhanpur in Sonamura subdivision, and most of those infected are rubber plantation workers.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh, which borders Tripura, has already been declared dengue-infected.
In this regard, high surveillance has already been put up in the bordering areas.
As a precautionary measure, the state government has setup dengue screening centres in all land ports with Bangladesh in order to ensure that no one with a fever can enter Tripura without being tested.
According to official data, 2,038 tests were conducted across Tripura, out of which 158 confirmed cases were clustered mainly in Dhanpur.
It may be added here that one person, Subash Sarkar, who was initially tested for dengue and admitted to a government primary health centre at Dhanpur, died in a private hospital in Agartala, family members of the deceased claimed.
However, government doctors said that there is no official confirmation since the MAC-ELISA test was not conducted, and the cause of death might be comorbidity, about which information is being collected.
