Magisterial level probe into Tura violence: Meghalaya CM Sangma

The Chief Minister once again said that whatever happened in Tura was unprecedented
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today said that a Magisterial enquiry has been set up to probe the violence that took place in Tura on July 24, 2023.
The high-level enquiry will reveal what had actually happened on that day, who were the people engaged in stone pelting at Chief Minister’s office in Tura while the CM was having discussion with leaders of ACHIK organization inside the CM’s mini secretariat on various issues raised by them.
Speaking about the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani’s statement that there was no conspiracy to assassinate the Chief Minister on that day, CM Sangma said, “As far as I know, the DC later provided a clarification claiming that he was not quoted accurately in terms of what he actually meant. I would not be able to respond as to what he was saying in what context as I did not make the statement.”
The Chief Minister once again said that whatever happened in Tura was unprecedented.
Stating that the law and order has to be maintained, Chief Minister reiterated that action will be taken on the basis of evidence and facts.
On July 24 night, a mob gheraoed Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s office in Tura, pelted stones and attacked his office while he was inside in a meeting with his cabinet colleague and PHE minister Marcuise N Marak and members of NGOs hearing their demands and grievances in which five police personnel were injured.
Meghalaya DGP LR Bishnoi had said that the attack was pre-planned and was aimed at causing physical damage to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, even go to the extent of murdering him.
So far 47 persons including TMC’s youth leader Richard Marak, and two Mahila Morcha leaders of BJP and NPP worker Jeakson Sangma are among those arrested.
