Mizoram MPs meet Union Home Secretary, urges Centre to allocate funds to assist Manipur IDPs

Two Members of Parliament (MPs) representing Mizoram–C. Lalrosanga (Lok Sabha) and K. Vanlalvena (Rajya Sabha) today met Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the latter’s office in New Delhi and urged the central government to allocate funds for humanitarian assistance to the Internally Displaced People(IDPs) taking shelter in the state.

It may be mentioned here that Mizoram government is still waiting for financial assistance from the Centre for providing shelter to over 12,600 people from violence hit Manipur.

The two MPs apprised Bhalla about the urgency of providing relief and humanitarian aid to the IDPs and urged him to expedite the allocation of fund.
A large number of the IDPs, especially living in the relief camps, are facing the stark reality of starvation even as the district administrations, local people, civil societies and churches continued to provide relief.

Earlier, Chief Minister Zoramthanga had, in May, sought Rs 10 crore from the central government as an immediate relief package for those displaced people.

According to the Mizoram Home Department, altogether 12,611 people from Manipur have taken shelter in the state till Friday, July 28.
