The arrested persons have been identified as-- Kajal Sarkar and Bishnu Chandra Mandal, a Bangladeshi national

In a surprise raid, a team of Assam Police arrested two individuals, including a Bangladeshi national in Tripura in connection with a case registered in Assam regarding alleged Rohingya infiltration.

The arrested persons have been identified as– Kajal Sarkar and Bishnu Chandra Mandal, a Bangladeshi national.

They were arrested from Sidhai Mohanpur in Tripura’s West district on Saturday night.

Notably, the raid was carried out just a day after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed concerns about his state being used as a “corridor” by Rohingya infiltrators heading to Delhi or Kashmir, and accused some brokers in Tripura of facilitating the infiltration.

During the operation, Assam Police Additional Superintendent of Police Bidyut Saikia, who led the team, raided the residence of Kajal Sarkar and recovered nine Aadhar cards, several PAN cards, and Bangladeshi documents and subsequently arrested Bishnu Chandra Mandal from his residence.

In view of growing concern over illegal infiltration and human trafficking in the region, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed the State Police to take action against brokers working in Tripura.
