5-member TMC team in Manipur visits Churachandpur, meets people in relief camps

The team expressed concern about the plight of the people in the relief camps and highlighted the need for better facilities for the inmates at the camps

The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) team who is on a 2-day visit to trouble torn Manipur visited Churachandpur today, one of the worst violence hit districts of the state.
Soon after arriving at Lamka at about 1:30 pm by a chopper, the team went straight to the Wall of Remembrance where dummy coffins of the fallen tribal heroes are kept.
The team comprising of Kalyan Banerjee MP and TMC chief whip Lok Sabha, Dr Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar Lok Sabha MP, Dola Sen MP Rajya Sabha and Sushmita Devi MP Rajya Sabha went to Saidan and visited a relief camp there. They interacted with the people there. Derek O’Brian is also part of the delegation but he could not travel to Churachandpur.
They then visited the Lingsiphai relief centres where 1000 plus displaced persons have taken shelter.
Kalyan Banerjee expressed deep concern over the condition of people in the relief centres and said they required more care and attention, especially the children, and the rehabilitation plans needed much improvement. He highlighted the need for proper power supply in the relief camps.
The 5-member TMC delegation landed in capital city Imphal earlier in the day today.
Speaking to the media before boarding the flight to Imphal, Sushmita Dev said, “As per the directions of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Bengal and Chariperson of TMC that a 5-member TMC delegation is visiting Manipur. It will be our endeavour to meet every faction, every group. This is a humanitarian crisis. We go in peace. We have sought the cooperation of the state government and an appointment with the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur,” TMC leader from Assam Sushmita Dev said before boarding the flight to imphal.
Earlier, Mamata Banerjee had written to the Home Ministry seeking clearance to visit Manipur but she did not receive any response.
