Wang Yun, 39, was arrested and sentenced to death after she poisoned children from the Mengmeng Pre-school Education in Jiaozuo four years ago
A court in China had executed a former kindergarten teacher for poisoning 25 children and killing one by contaminating their porridge with sodium nitrite in a fit of revenge after she had a row with her co-worker’, state media reported on Friday.
According to state media, Wang Yun, 39, was arrested and sentenced to death after she poisoned children from the Mengmeng Pre-school Education in Jiaozuo four years ago.
Wang Yun had unsuccessfully appealed her death sentence, initially handed down in September 2020 by the Jiaozuo city intermediate people’s court in Henan province.
On Thursday, the same court verified Wang’s identity, escorted her to the execution ground, and carried out the death sentence, a court statement said, according to state media.
Reportedly, Wang had a fight with her colleague over ‘student management issues, after which she purchased the sodium nitrite in March 2019, the Jiaozuo court said at the time of her arrest.
The next morning, she added sodium nitrite in “eight treasures porridge”, which is commonly used as a food preservative but can be toxic and possibly fatal from overexposure, into the children’s ‘eight treasures porridge’, the court ruled, according to state media.
“Eight Treasures Porridge” is a sweet-flavored rice-based porridge that is very popular in China.
As per reports, 23 children began vomiting and fainting after having the porridge.
Police launched an investigation after Wang was accused of poisoning the students on March 27, 2019.
One of the children died of multiple organ failures caused by the poisoning in January 2020.
Two dozen others suffered minor injuries, state media reported.
