The Chief Minister said that Rs 1000 will be distributed to each of the displaced persons in the next couple of days

Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday visited one of the relief camps at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex’s hostel in Manipur’s capital Imphal. This particular relief camp has been set up primarily for pregnant women displaced or rendered homeless because of the ongoing violence in the state.

The CM interacted with the people who have taken refuge in this relief camp and assured them all help.

A total of 52 pregnant women have taken shelter at this hostel since May 21. Relief camp in-charge R K Nongdrenkhomba stated that so far, 16 young mothers have given birth to nine baby boys and 7 baby girls, and all of them are healthy.

CM Singh congratulated the young mothers and extended his best wishes to them.

Talking about the initiatives taken by the state government to help rehabilitate the displaced people, CM Singh said, ““Within 45 days the government is going to provide not less than 3000 newly constructed houses. It will be a prefabricated house. There will be two rooms and one washroom. A common dining hall and a common toilet will be there. Our main concern is to rehabilitate the displaced families. We will also start providing Rs 1000 each to a person. From Monday or Tuesday, we will start distributing the money.”

The Chief Minister was accompanied by state BJP President AK Sarda Devi.

Yesterday CM Singh visited Kwakta Sericulture Training Institute located at Moirang under Bishnupur district in Manipur to identify the areas where nearly 1000 pre-fabricated houses for the displaced people of the state will be erected.

He had also visited Kwakta in Moirang where an IED explosion took place on Wednesday night inside a SUV that left an eight-year-old boy and two teenagers seriously wounded.
