The newly constructed building has been named ‘Jyotin Block’
The newly built block at the Command Hospital of the Indian Army’s Southern Command has been named after martyred Major Dr. Laishram Jyotin Singh from Manipur who died fighting a suicide bomber during the attack on the Indian Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan in 2010.
The newly constructed building has been named ‘Jyotin Block’.
The ‘Jyotin Block’ was inaugurated by his mother Ibeyaima Laishram on June 16.
Born in Nambol of Manipur, Dr. Laishram Jyotin Singh joined the Army Medical Corps on February 15, 2003.
He completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.
He was a part of the challenging Indian medical mission in Kabul, Afghanistan in 2010.
“On February 26, 2010, at 6.30am, a residential complex of the Indian medical mission was attacked by heavily armed terrorists, who were hurling grenades into each room and setting them on fire. With utter disregard for his personal safety, Singh pinned down a terrorist down and prevented him from firing at other members of the mission. The terrorist panicked and detonated his suicide vest,” stated the Army records.
Dr. Laishram Jyotin Singh was also awarded the Ashoka Chakra (posthumous), the highest peacetime gallantry award in the Indian Armed Forces for his exemplary act of raw courage and supreme sacrifice that saved the lives of ten of his colleagues during the attack in Kabul in 2010.
