In a tragic incident, four internally displaced people of Manipur, including a 12-year-old boy and a month old child, died in two separate incidents in Mizoram.
Two people, a 57-year-old man and his 23-year-old daughter-in-law, both internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Manipur, were killed when the car they were traveling in rolled down into a gorge near Saitual town on Sunday night.
They were traveling from Lamka, Manipur to Aizawl.
As per police reports, Haosei Kipgen, who was driving the car, and his daughter-in-law, Lamneihkhol died on the spot.
Three injured persons, which included a 1-year-old infant boy and a 7-year-old girl, were taken to Saitual district hospital, where their conditions were stated to be stable by the doctors.
A whole-night vigil in accordance with the Mizo tradition was organized at the home of J.K. Touthang, a teacher at Saitual College, on Sunday night, and a post-mortem examination was conducted on Monday.
Their bodies would be transported to B. Aijalon, Lamka (Churachandpur), in Manipur, for the last rites.
In another incident, a 12-year-old boy and a 1-month-old infant, both IDPs died at Saiphai village in Mizoram’s Kolasaib district.
Samuel Lalsiemsang (1 month old), son of Hrangrokhum from Cachar district of Assam, taking shelter in Mizoram in the wake of ethnic clashes in Manipur, which affected some parts of southern Assam, died due to a high fever on Monday morning.
Lalsiemsang’s parents joined their relatives in Saiphai village, and his mortal remains were buried there after a Christian funeral.
Lalthalien (12), son of Josia Lalsiemsang, who was lodged at the IDP relief camp in Saiphai village, died due to pneumonia, and his body was taken to his native village of Savawmphai in Manipur with arrangements made by the Saiphai village relief committee.

The 623 IDPs who entered Mizoram during the last 24 hours have taken shelter in Mizoram’s Kolasib district bordering Assam, Aizawl district, and Manipur-border Saitual district.
There are 3,482 IDPs taking shelter in Kolasib district, followed by 3,157 and 2,389 people in Aizawl and Saitual districts, respectively.
