Over 5000 people hold a rally in Assam’s Silchar for restoration of peace in Manipur

The All Assam Manipuri Youth Association (AAMYA) today organised a rally in Assam’s Silchar for the restoration of peace in Manipur which has been on the boil because of ethnic clashes related to multiple issues since May 3, 2023.
More than 5000 people joined the peace rally that started from Bir Tikendrajit Primary School Itkhola Silchar and proceeded through the major streets to the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Cachar. On reaching the DC office, AAMYA submitted a memorandum to DC Rohan Kumar Jha.
People were seen holding placards that say “Do not play a game of blood”, “Punish the perpetrator in Manipur violence”, “Terminate suspension of SOo”, “Implement NRC in Manipur”, “Save Manipur from illegal immigrants” etc.
Talking to Northeast Live AAMYA’s chief advisor Khetriyam Kundal Singh said, “There are many rumours that our women children have been raped there. We are not blaming any community, we are blaming the narco-terrorists. CM N Biren Singh promoted the war on drugs, due to which the narco-terrorists have lost their way and have created this riot in the state. We want immediate control of this riot because if this situation continues for a few more days it will escalate to the entire Northeast and will be beyond our control.”
“There are rumours that the forces deployed in Manipur to control the situation are not doing their job properly, therefore, I request the President of India Droupadi Murmu, PM Narendra Modi and the Union Home Ministry to look into the matter more seriously than before because violence is still going on in the state.”
He further appealed to the displaced people of the state sheltering in Assam and other states, not to panic and go by the rumours spreading. The Government of India is doing their level best to control the situation.
