Johnny Depp to direct biopic titled Modi

As per reports, the film Modi will feature Italian actor Riccardo Scamarcio in the lead role
He’s coming back as a director after 25 years! We are talking about Johnny Depp. The actor will be donning the director’s hat for Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani’s biopic. Amedeo was known as ‘Modi’ to his friends. And that’s the reason his biopic has been titled Modi. Depp has announced the cast of his upcoming movie. It will feature legendary actor Al Pacino in a prominent role, reported India Today.
JOHNNY DEPP RETURNS TO DIRECTION
According to a report in Deadline, film Modi will feature Italian actor Riccardo Scamarcio in the lead role. He is best known for his role in films like John Wick: Chapter 2, The Best of Youth, and Paolo Sorrentino’s Loro. Apart from Riccardo and Pacino, the film will also feature Pierre Niney in a key role. The Johnny Depp directorial is expected to go on floors in Budapest this fall.
Apart from directing the film, Depp will be a Modi co-producer with Al Pacino and Barry Navidi. The movie is reportedly based on Dennis McIntyre’s play, Modigliani, and it is written by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski.
BARRY NAVIDI TALKS ABOUT THE BIOPIC
Barry Navidi, who is co-producing the movie, was quoted by Deadline as saying, “This is a snapshot of Modigliani’s life that gives us insight into his struggle as an artist suffering from lack of recognition, and a project Al (Pachino) and I have pursued for many years. Our incredible cast, coupled with the vision, wit, and sensitivity I know Johnny will bring behind the camera, will make this a dream come true.”
Meanwhile, Johnny Depp’s last directorial venture was The Brave in 1997. The film featured Johnny Depp and Marlon Brando. In the meantime, he makes his acting comeback with Jeanne du Barry.
