In a successful joint operation led by the government of Nagaland, Assam Rifles, and Nagaland Police, a total of 676 stranded Naga people in Manipur were safely evacuated and brought back to Kohima today.
The Assam Rifles team, under the leadership of Brigadier Ved Beniwal, Deputy Inspector General (IGAR), led the operation.
Welcoming the returnees, Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton expressed gratitude for the coordinated efforts between Assam Rifles and Nagaland Police, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring the safe return of all Naga students. He announced that buses have been arranged for students, with the first batch arriving in Dimapur today.
Dy CM Y. Patton stated, “I request the remaining Naga students to have patience as we will reach out to them by tomorrow. We are deploying more buses, and tomorrow we will send 14 buses, followed by another 14 until all the students have been brought back.”
In an immediate relief measure, Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton also provided financial assistance of Rs. 5000 to each family affected by the situation.
According to reports, there are still over 600 individuals awaiting evacuation, and tomorrow, 14 additional buses will be dispatched as part of the second batch for evacuation.
The state has arranged 5 buses to sent the people who are to leave for Dimapur today.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed his happiness regarding the safe return of the Nagaland people.
In a tweet, CM Rio wrote, “Happy about the safe return of people from Nagaland. I express my appreciation to all those involved in coordinating the process, and to the paramilitary forces, especially the Assam Rifles for partnering with the State Govt. in ensuring the return of our people from Manipur.”
One of the relieved evacuees shared the heartfelt sentiments, saying, “I am so glad to reach home safely, all together. I am really grateful for all the people who helped us through thick and thin during this tough moment. We are immensely grateful for everything.”
