Tripura: Woman suspected to be witch killed, body dumped in toilet pit, 8 arrested

According to the police, the incident took place as a result of some family dispute, and all those arrested are relatives of the victim

At least 8 people have been arrested in the Khowai district of Tripura for allegedly killing a lady, suspecting her of being a witch, and dumping the body into a toilet pit.

The incident took place on Thursday evening in Lengtibari Kondobasti area under Champahawar police station in Tripura, Sukramani Debbarma, officer in charge of Champahawar police station, informed.

The victim has been identified as Kosholla Ghatawal.

According to the police, the incident took place as a result of some family dispute, and all those arrested are relatives of the victim.

Initially, the police had detained a few suspected youths of the village, and during interrogation, the arrested accused confessed to crime.

Based on the statement from the accused, the body of the victim was recovered.

However, local sources said the husband of the victim, Ranjan Kanda, had complained to the police that his wife had been murdered, suspecting her of being a witch, and based on his complaint, eight people, all close relatives of his, were arrested.
