Govt aims to complete NH-202 connecting Imphal-Ukhrul by May 2024: Union Road Transport Minister

The Centre is making all out efforts to complete the construction of the National Highway-202 connecting Imphal-Ukhrul by May 2024. This was informed by Union minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in response to an unstarred question raised by Rajya Sabha MP from Manipur and titular king Leisemba Sanajaoba.

The Union minister in his reply stated that the completion of the road project was affected due to delay in land acquisition and forest clearance as the Manipur Rajya Sabha MP expressed his disappointment about the delay in completion of the project which has been pending for 3 years.

Union minister of Road Transport and National Highways Nitin Gadkari in his reply also said that the Yaingangpokpi to Finch Comer stretch of the road is being executed in two packages of 17km and 14km respectively.

Out of the total 17km in package 1, land for 18 km has been acquired by the government of Manipur while compensation estimate for an 850 metre stretch on the same route is under finalisation by DC Ukhrul and DC Kangpokpi.

In respect of package 2, land in the entire 14km has been handed over to state government while forest department accorded forest clearance for both the packages on March 1, 2023.Present physical progress achieved in package 1 is 52.03 per cent and 42.52 per cent for package 2, Nitin Gadkari informed the House.

It may be mentioned that the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) had undertaken the project of expanding NH-202 from Yaingakpokpi village to Finch Corner in Ukhrul district in September 2020.

As per the plans, the single lane road would be expanded to a double lane road 7 metres in width. The targeted time set for the completion of work was 24 months as per the sanction order and the work was alloted to Dhruv Consultancy Services Ltd and M/s Varaha Infra Limited separately with a total cost of about Rs 260.4 crore.
