When asked if the NPP combination will survive full time, Mukul Sangma said, "You will have to wait and watch and see how things unfold in the days to come

A day after the big U-turn by the UDP and PDF who ditched TMC and joined hands with NPP to be part of the next Meghalaya government that would be sworn in tomorrow, TMC leader Mukul Sangma who was spearheading the talks with UDP, PDF, VPP and the Congress said that TMC remains un-wavered, they are now in the process of analyzing the pulls and pushes (that led to the fallout) and would strategise accordingly to give the people of the state the government that they had voted for.

“These are political dynamics (UDP and PDF joining NPP) that usually unfolds over a period of time. Now we are analysisng the pulls and pushes and we will strategise. But we remain un-wavered in our commitment to see that the state has a government as per the mandate of the people. We will still work for it, we are not wavered,” Mukul Sangma a former Congress veteran and former CM of Meghalaya who ruled the state from 2010-18 said today.

Speaking about the role that the TMC will play in the assembly, Mukul Sangma affirmed that this party will play the role of a constructive Opposition. Sangma said, “TMC has always said that we will be playing our constructive role as Opposition because the mandate does not give us the kind of numbers to say that we are single largest party. The fractured mandate is before us. But upon this whole mandate, lies a responsibility.”

When asked if the NPP combination will survive full time, Mukul Sangma said, “You will have to wait and watch and see how things unfold in the days to come in the months to come.”

Responding to the demand for a Khasi Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma said, “I think there is a very wrong narrative being generated. It is being perceived by some sections of the people or being propagated or mis-propagated by some sections of the people. And it is not a question of who the Chief Minister will be. It is not a question of Chief Minister who should be from where. The question is to have a government. A government who is capable of freeing the state from the kind of plundering it has undergone in the last 5 years. And the mandate is completely indicative of that desire and thirst of the people. The issue here is not the issue of whether the Chief Minister should be from any community. It is the question of people from the 3 Hills coming together and looking at the binding responsibilities vested on us through this mandate”.
