Assam’s ‘Kolija Aaita’ passes away at 108

Assam’s favourite grandmother, Subhadra Devi, popularly known as “Kolija aaita,” passed away on Thursday morning following age-related illness in Guwahati. Devi passed away at the age of 108.

Subhadra Devi was undergoing treatment in the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital since last week and was in ventilation.

Utpal Harshvardhan, co-founder of Mother Old Age Home, expressing grief over her demise, said, “We feel as if we are orphans today, and the guiding light she was for all of us is now no more.”

Subhadra Devi was loved by all age groups in Assam for her loving nature and captivating smile. She was staying at the Pramod Talukdar Old Age Home in Beltola. Earlier, she was staying at the Mother Old Age Home.

Following her demise, a pall of gloom descended in Assam. Her last rites will be performed at Navagraha.
