Random Covid testing for arriving international passengers from December 24

The Union health ministry has written to the civil aviation ministry in this regard amid an increase in coronavirus cases in many countries.

Stepping up the efforts to combat the spread of new variant of OMICRON, the Centre has said that two per cent of passengers arriving in each international flight will have to undergo random Coronavirus test from December 24.

Following random testing, if anybody is found Covid-positive, the sample should be sent for genomic testing at the designated INSACOG laboratory network, Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan wrote in a letter to his civil aviation ministry counterpart Rajiv Bansal.

2% of the total passengers in a flight to undergo Covid tests at airport on arrival; such passengers will be allowed to leave the airport after giving sample.

It may be mentioned that the BF.7 sub-variant of Omicron has become a hot topic. This is the Covid variant responsible for the current surge in COVID19 infections in China.
