Massive protest by AEKDSU over corruption in road construction; activist Sol Dodum hits out at AEKDSU & EKSWCO

According to AEKSU President Chakang Yangda financial anomalies of a whopping Rs 172 crore have occured in the name of constructing the road which was proposed under the Northeast Council

A massive protest erupted in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Kameng district after locals alongwith hundreds of members of the All East Kameng District Students Union (AEKSU) hit the streets alleging corruption in construction of a strategic road – the crucial road leading from Seppa to Chayang Tajo, a stretch of 81-km. Meanwhile, several other students bodies also expressed solidarity to the protest.

According to AEKSU President Chakang Yangda financial anomalies of a whopping Rs 172 crore have occured in the name of constructing the road which was proposed under the Northeast Council way back in 2008.

As per the student body, the road construction is taking a long time to complete, and funds have been siphonned off.

The AEKDSU president further claimed that an amount of Rs 3.41 crore too has been siphonned off of the total Rs 20 crore released by Chief Minister Pema Khandu in 2022 for completing construction of the unfinished portion of the road. The AEKDSU alleged that the amount was withdrawn without any agreement or tender.

Chakang Yangda further asserted that an additional fund of Rs 20 crore was released by the state Chief minister Pema Khandu for the unfinished NEC road construction earlier in 2022.

Meanwhile, rights activist Sol Dodum is pointing a finger at the protesters. Dodum is asking why the AEKDSU was silent for the past 4 years. According to Sol Dodum the AEKDSU is weak and is once again raking up the issue ahead of the change in leadership in the organisation.

In a sensational allegation, Dodum alleged that the East Kameng Social Welfare and Cultural Organization (EKSWCO), which he believes to be the parent organisation of the AEKDSU, is being financed by those involved in the financial anomalies.

Sol Dodum said, “If someone asks me I will clearly say that there is some problem with AEKSU as far as the corruption isssue is concerned. What was the AEKSU doing all these days. If they had raised their voice than they would have received full people’s support. They sat silent everyday and now when the tenure is going to get over, they are raising the issue once again. This should not be done. If they would have raised the issue strongly in the last 4 years, than a good road would have been a reality by now.”

If that was not all, Sol Dodum also feels that the AEKSU and ESWCO is also responsible for controlling and appreciating the activities of the (corrupt) officers.
