United Committee Manipur reiterates its stand against disintegration of Manipur

First Published: 17th December, 2022 19:46 IST

UCM secretary general Ngangom Deba appealed to all the communities living in Manipur to stand together for a united Manipur.

The United Committee Manipur (UCM) on Saturday reiterated its stand that it will never accept any move or policy that will disintegrate Manipur or disrupt its territorial integrity. The UCM said this in reference to the growing demand for Nagalim and Kukiland.

Speaking to the media at the UCM office at Lamphel in Imphal, UCM secretary general Ngangom Deba said that the demand is not against the peace process, yet, it should not breach Manipur’s unity and integrity.

Deba further recounted that UCM came into existence against the backdrop of the Bangkok Declaration for a ceasefire agreement between NSCN-IM and the Government of India in June 2001 that led to the Great June Uprising wherein 18 people lost their lives in the movement.

Since then, UCM has been at the forefront to safeguard Manipur’s unity and territorial integrity, he said.

Deba informed that any policy or move concerning the demand for Nagalim or Kukiland that may affect Manipur’s integrity will be inviting a second Great June Uprising.

He appealed to all the communities living in Manipur to stand together for a united Manipur.

He also sent out a message to the Government of India that UCM along with the people will fight tooth and nail against any policy that will disintegrate Manipur and reject government within the government.

UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam also gave a hard-hitting reply to those who want to disintegrate Manipur or support the demand for Nagalim or Kukiland.
