Meghalaya BJP Vice President Bernard Marak in a direct attack on the Conrad government has said that the government is stopping funds to PMAY beneficiaries in Garo Hills.
Getting a big boost after 3 Meghalaya MLAs, two from ruling NPP announcing their plans to join BJP, the Meghalaya BJP has upped its ante and gone all guns blazing at the NPP-led Conrad Sangma government accusing it of stopping funds for developmental projects.
Meghalaya BJP Vice President Bernard Marak in a direct attack on the Conrad government said that the government is stopping funds to PMAY beneficiaries in Garo Hills.
“In the department I got information from internal sources that someone in the government is stopping the funds because after completion of these houses the PMAY logo with Modiji’s picture has to be put up. And it would have a difference influence among the voters. That is the fear of these people. That is why they are not releasing the funds,” Marak said adding that it has been five years since the PMAY (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana) scheme for low cost housing was launched and the houses are ready but the beneficiaries are yet to get the dues. Marak was speaking exclusively to Northeast Live.
He said that people from certain political parties have told the beneficiaries that funds would be released to them only if they are voted back to power.
Mentioning about BJP’s special focus on Garo Hills, Marak who got out of jail just four months back, said that the party wants to improve the education sector, particularly “students’ scholarships and teachers’ issues”, low cost housing and overall infrastructure development of the area.
Talking about the rising popularity of BJP in the Garo Hills, Marak further said, “People are fast accepting BJP as the option against all political parties which have ruined Garo Hills in terms of development, progress and everything. Today if people are joining BJP that is because we are fighting corruption. The people have been victims of corruption and they want corruption to be rooted out”.
