Internet Suspension in 7 Meghalaya Districts Extended by 48 Hours

Internet suspension in 7 districts of Meghalaya – West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi, Eastern West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills

Internet suspension in 7 districts of Meghalaya – West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi, Eastern West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills district, has been extended for another 48 hours. The decision has come within minutes of fresh violence being reported in Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya.

A traffic police both at the Shillong Civil Hospital junction was torched and a city bus was attacked by miscreants. The miscreants tried to set the bus on fire near the Civil Hospital junction this evening.

This is the second incident of arson in Shillong three days after the Mukroh incident. On November 22, the day of the Mukroh incident, a private car with Assam number plate was set ablaze near Shillong. No casualties were reported.

The situation in Shillong continues to be tense.

Entry of non-Meghalaya vehicles, particularly those with Assam numbers, continue to be restricted from Jorabat and Khanapara in Assam.

Internet and mobile data services was suspended in the 7 districts on November 22 after the Mukroh firing incident that morning.

Five Meghalaya residents were killed in the firing incident at Mukroh. The people were killed when Assam Police and Assam forest guards opened fire to disperse a mob that had gathered after the Assam forest guards had stopped a truck carrying timber in Mukroh, West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya.
