PM Modi Extends Greetings on Lachit Divas

Grand celebrations are going on in New Delhi to mark 400th birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Barphukan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his greetings to the people of Assam on the occasion of the 400th Birth Anniversary of Ahom General and national icon, Bir Lachit Barphukan today.
“Greetings on Lachit Diwas. This Lachit Diwas is special because we mark the 400th birth anniversary of the great Lachit Borphukan. He epitomised unparalleled courage. He placed the well-being of people above everything else and was a just as well as visionary leader,” PM Modi said in a tweet.

Assam government has begun a grand week-long celebration from November 18 to mark Bir Lachit’s 400th Birth Anniversary and celebrate the valour of the Ahom General who halted the Mughals from entering Assam and the northeast. A contemporary of Chattrapati Shivaji, Bir Lachit defeated the Mughal Army led by Ram Singh I who was sent by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb to invade the Ahom kingdom in 1667.
PM Modi would be attending the concluding day’s events tomorrow being held in New Delhi.
Today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah would be attending the celebrations at Vigyan Bhavan in the national capital.
A documentary and a coffee table book on the life and heroism of the national icon would be released.
The birth anniversary celebrations would end tomorrow in New Delhi.
The celebrations began with a march past by the uniformed forces — Army, Air Force, BSF, CRPF, SSB, ITBP, CISF, RPF and Assam Police as well as NCC cadets on November 18 across Assam followed by essay competitions and several other events. From November 23 the venue of the celebrations shifted to the national capital.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated an exhibition and gave the inaugural address yesterday in New Delhi.
